This is a cremation.  There are several going on at the shoreline.  As long as you are not too close, you can take a photo. This was done with a telephoto lens.  People may actually move to Veranassi when they are sick, or when they get older, so they can die here.  It is a honor to die in this Holy City.

I am not sure how the body is placed in the fire.  I know that the ashes on then scattered on the Ganges.  If anyone knows, how the place the body, how they keep the wood separate from the body ashes, tell me. 

I am told that rich people will use expensive woods like sandalwood for the fire, which gives off a distinctive odor.
